Year 5 Visit The Central Mosque In Birmingham

Mosque 2017 0021

The Croft’s own religious studies curriculum embraces a broad spectrum of beliefs. The teachings of other faiths are discussed. Year 6 have learnt about Buddhism, with a talk from a practising Buddhist; Year 4 are going to the Sikh Gurdwara Sahib, in Leamington, next week; and on Tuesday the Year 5 children went to the Central Mosque, in Birmingham, to enhance their knowledge of Islam. Form 5H pupils were asked by the Chair of Governors, Mrs Vanessa Aris, for some facts and information about their new understanding. Some of the answers included: face Mecca to pray, wash beforehand in the Wudu, and take off shoes when praying. The Qur’an is the name of the Islamic holy book with 6666 verses; and the Birmingham Central Mosque is the largest mosque in Europe. Thank you to Mrs Challis for making the trips so helpful in our understanding of these religions.

Have you Filled a Bucket Today?

i am a bucket filler webThe children in Class IH have been learning about the joy of giving and receiving. The book ‘Have you filled a bucket today?’ written by Carol McCloud has been the inspiration for a new class initiative. Carol believed that everyone is born with an invisible bucket. You can’t see the bucket, but it is there. The bucket holds our good thoughts and our good feelings. When you make someone feel special, you are filling a bucket. 1H have all been bucket fillers this week. They have been trying to spot their classmates doing kind and caring things for others. When they notice something, they fill that person’s bucket. Mrs Hewitt spotted Naomi O helping to zip up someone’s coat, and Mrs Anstey spotted Toby T being very helpful in the Dining Room. Happy bucket filling!

‘Robots are coming’ ……….to The Croft

 Robots 2017 73

In assembly, we were introduced to NOA, the humanoid robot.  I really enjoyed seeing NOA talk and move on the stage, do a dance and even some tai chi!

In the workshop, we all had a lot of fun building and programming our own robot using Lego Mindstorms.  It was really interesting and everybody had a fantastic time.

Celebrating Chinese New Year in Little Crofters

Resize for Clarion 2The children in Little Crofters have been discovering all about Chinese New Year. We have been making and decorating paper lanterns, where the children have been developing their scissor skills. We will be taste testing different Chinese foods and looking at which ones are the children’s favourites.
