Howzat! Year 5 Cricket Team Meet Darren Maddy

A huge thank you to Solihull for hosting a fantastic cricket festival. Darren Maddy ex England and Warwickshire Bears cricketer put the Year 5 boys through their paces with a series of fielding, bowling and batting drills which culminated in mini matches to finish.

A great early introduction to the cricket season.

Class 1DB Investigate Shape and Pattern

1DB Clarion 15.3.17 RESIZEDThis week the children in 1DB have been investigating shape and pattern. Georgie P asked if all regular shapes  have the same number of corners and sides. We examined the shapes and found this was true for almost all regular shapes, but there were exceptions. Can you think of one?

Warwick Rugby Festival

After what had been another wet week! The U11 7s Rugby team took on the great and the good at Warwick's 7-a-side Rugby Festival; the competing teams had travelled from as far afield as York (St Olave's) and Wakefield (QEGS). The ground was soft and very heavy going, but it didn't stop the boys playing end-to-end rugby, scoring some outstanding team tries. Every boy tackled and quite literally ran themselves into the ground, making all those who supported immensely proud.

World Book Day

DSC06761 for webLast Friday saw The Croft celebrate World Book Day with a multitude of fabulous costumes from both children and staff. We were also extremely lucky to have a visit, in Pre-Prep, from author and illustrator Claire Henley. This was a very enlightening talk which showed the children the various stages that an illustration goes through before the final print. This culminated in the children being allowed to touch and have a closer look at a finished picture which was painted with acrylics. Year 2 pupils then proceeded to make one page  of a 'lift the flap' book with guidance from Ms Henley. A wonderful day was had by all.

Year 5 Visit The Central Mosque In Birmingham

Mosque 2017 0021

The Croft’s own religious studies curriculum embraces a broad spectrum of beliefs. The teachings of other faiths are discussed. Year 6 have learnt about Buddhism, with a talk from a practising Buddhist; Year 4 are going to the Sikh Gurdwara Sahib, in Leamington, next week; and on Tuesday the Year 5 children went to the Central Mosque, in Birmingham, to enhance their knowledge of Islam. Form 5H pupils were asked by the Chair of Governors, Mrs Vanessa Aris, for some facts and information about their new understanding. Some of the answers included: face Mecca to pray, wash beforehand in the Wudu, and take off shoes when praying. The Qur’an is the name of the Islamic holy book with 6666 verses; and the Birmingham Central Mosque is the largest mosque in Europe. Thank you to Mrs Challis for making the trips so helpful in our understanding of these religions.
