Sporting Facilities

The scope of the thirty-acre site has been fully utilised to provide some of the most exciting sporting opportunities in the area.

  • Cross Country Course winds its way through the woods and conservation area before circling the extensive playing fields.

  • Rugby, Football, Hockey pitches for the Winter months; Cricket and Rounders pitches, Cricket Nets, Athletics Tracks and Field events for the Summer months.

  • Netball Courts, Tennis Courts.

  • Indoor Swimming Pool.

  • Indoor Sports Hall.

  • Fully equipped Gymnasium.

  • Sprung-Floor Performance Space for Ballet, Dance, Movement and Musical Theatre.

Sport contributes to the life of the School and the children's physical development. The extensive range of extra curricular activities makes further use of the above facilities.

Creative expression – art, drama, music – plays an important part of life at The Croft. Areas and spaces, both indoor and outdoor, have been created to ensure every child has access to a range of opportunities.

  • Theatre with stage and associated lighting and staging.

  • Performance Space with sprung floor, acoustic panelling and gallery.

  • Recital Room.

  • Music School.

  • Music Practice Rooms.

  • Music Technology Room.

  • Art Studio.

  • Small scale arena, with seating, incorporated into both playgrounds.

The Arts have a high profile in the School. Self expression and creativity are encouraged at every stage of the children's development.

Murals and sculptures have been commissioned to enhance many of the external areas.

The Croft's beautiful setting has allowed the School to develop wonderful areas for the children to explore and play. Alveston Hill rises above the surrounding countryside, and lends itself to a wealth of recreational areas.

Designated playground areas, with extensive, imaginative and up-to-date play equipment; playing fields, lawns and gardens, all add to a feeling of freedom to play.

Unique to the School, is the imitation Motte and Bailey Castle, and mock Station Building and Parcel Office, which are great favourites with the children – and adults alike!

Pre-Prep and Early Years children benefit from indoor covered areas for wet playtimes, and attractive shelters and trees provide shaded areas in the summer months.

Prep children are able to spend time in the Prep Library, which is open and supervised during after lunch playtime, and the Sports Hall doubles as a play area in wet weather.

In dry periods of the year, the wide, open spaces of the playing fields allow the children to run and play freely, under close supervision. The opportunities for recreation are endless at The Croft, and the children make the very most of them.

Outdoor Education

The Croft has developed many areas, specifically to provide external educational spaces, for outdoor teaching and learning.

  • Conservation area with large lake

  • Small pond, with dipping jetty

  • Allotment and Potting Shed

  • Rhode Rock and Surrey Ranger Chickens and Kune Kune Pigs

  • Art on the lawns

  • Storytelling in the shade of Horse Chestnut trees

  • Nature Trail

  • Nursery, Pre-Reception and Reception Classrooms open onto garden areas, in addition to spacious playgrounds

  • Wooded Walks

The very open position of the School, atop Alveston Hill, ensures that all the children have the physical experience of the changing seasons. The walk from Pre-Prep to the Dining Hall might be a skip in the sunshine, or a battle against a strong south-westerly wind! Come rain or shine, the seasons influence and enhance the children's learning.
